BRUNCH AT CAFÉ EL DORADO

We planned to have brunch with another couple. We felt that going to Mont Royal would be the best option since there are so many restaurants, many of which serve brunch. We decided on Café El Dorado and you could see through the windows that it was a popular place.

As we walked in, we were surprised how large the space was. The entire restaurant was full, but luckily we did not have to wait too long for a table for four (maybe 10 minutes).  The decor was pretty- the walls were covered with artwork from a local artists and the exposed brick added a beautiful detail.

Their menu has a lot of options- there's a mix between classic dishes (eggs and meat, eggs benedict, crepes) and things you haven't seen before (waffles with herbs, gingerbread pancakes, quiche, etc). They also had a good variety of side dishes, so in case your main dish was missing something, they can accommodate your taste buds.  Since we were four people, we were able to see and taste a variety of options from the menu.  One thing we did notice was that the prices were a little steep. Most dishes ranged between $11-$16.

Herbed Waffle ($16):
Poached eggs, asparagus, cherry tomatoes, mushrooms, and Mornay sauce
Proscuitto Omelette ($13):
Goat Cheese, Proscuitto and tomatoes served with fresh fruit
Breakfast Plate ($11.50):
2 eggs, blueberry pancakes, ham, potatoes and fruit
Oeufs Rancheros Eggs ($12):
2 scrambled eggs on a bed of chili, covered with bacon and melted
Swiss cheese, potatoes and fresh fruit

All four of us were pretty pleased with our dishes (the only comment regarding G's dish is that the goat cheese was VERY strong). The portions and presentation were standard.  In the end, once we got the dishes, we felt that the prices were ok. The more extravagant dishes were the most expensive, but the ingredients made it worth it, we guess. Finally, coffee was not included, therefore your bill can spike pretty quickly (but it was bottomless cup though).

When it came to service, this is where we were disappointed. Our waitress  did not set a good tone first thing in the morning.  To be quite honest, it seemed as though she was annoyed and didn't want to be there- she was not talkative and did not smile once; she really was not friendly. Unfortunately the service left us with a bad taste in our mouth. . . .
