While we love a fancy, creative brunch, going back to the basics is necessary from time to time. On labour day, M decided that we go to a diner that she passed by a few weeks back called Restaurant Deli Plus.  It's located on Papineau, in the Saint-Michel & Villeray area.

Pulling up to Deli Plus, it seems as though it was an old McDonalds or Burger King; there's something familiar about the structure. Nonetheless, there's nothing fancy about it. When you walk in, it's what you would expect: lines of tables and booths with a 70's vibe. It's isn't "beautiful" but what diner really is? Let's be honest- you don't go there for the decor, you go for the food.

Everything on the menu is under $10.30 - SO cheap!  They have all your breakfast standards: meat & egg dishes, french toast, omelettes, and breakfast sandwiches. Every dish is served with a glass of orange juice, fruit and bottomless coffee; munching on the fruit was a good way to start off the day.

Our waitress came to our table pretty quickly...and SHE SPOKE ENGLISH RIGHT AWAY (can't even believe we need to write this, but these days, thats considered a huge plus). In the end, G settled for eggs, sausage, french toast and potatoes. M skipped out on the meat (her heart will probably thank her for it later), and  paired her eggs with some crepes.

While the waitress did not crack a smile, she was very quick to serve our table and kept the coffee flowing throughout the meal. Our plates were FANTASTIC- simple, yet so, so, so delicious. I know you may be thinking- but it's just eggs, meat and potatoes. However, you'd be surprised how many people can screw up eggs and homefries (I know, right?!). In fact, it's been a while that G was actually completely PLEASED with scrambled eggs at a restaurant (part of the reason why she doesn't order them that often). The crepes were good, but they were more like pancakes than anything else. The french toast on the other hand were fluffy and scrumptious (again, you can really screw up french toast...to a point where they are dry and tough). The meal also came with toast and jam, which rounded everything off.  As you can see in the photos, the plates were pretty big- and this wasn't the largest dish on the menu!

While the restaurant does not offer a "spectacular" atmosphere, it's casual; you really feel comfortable when you are there. The relaxed vibe paired with delicious (AND SUPER CHEAP) food is an easy choice to make this a regular spot for a traditional breakfast- just be sure to bring cash.
